Types of Acne Scar Treatment

Almost everyone at some point in their life will have to deal with acne disrupting their perfect skin. Those who are fortunate enough to outgrow acne breakouts still have the deal with acne scars which can last a lifetime unless it is treated. Acne scars can cause stress and embarrassment for both men and women of any age. The good news is that there are many types of treatment available and your dermatologist can recommend the best treatment for your particular situation.

Laser Acne Scar Treatment
Most laser acne removal systems use a CO2 laser to cause superficial damage to the top layer of the skin. This forces the body to shed the top layer of damaged skin cells and replace it with fresh new cells. The new layer of skin will make the treated area look smoother and younger. The treatment also stimulates collage production which smoothes and tightens the skin while increased blood circulation to the area helps the skin naturally receive plenty of nourishment.

Dermabrasion Scar Removal
Dermabrasion is good for any type of scar and begins with the application of a topical numbing medication. A special device is used to very gently sand away to top layer of the skin revealing the new layer underneath which is fresh and smooth. The potential side effect of this type of skin treatment is discoloration in lighter or darker areas of the skin. There is also the risk of an allergic reaction to the numbing medication which can be avoided by first undergoing a medical examination.

Chemical Peels
This type of treatment is offered in many day spas and uses very specific acids to peel away a very thin top layer of the skin. The concept is the same as the aforementioned treatments in that the top layer of scarred skin tissue is removed to reveal the new skin underneath. There are different levels of treatment and most spas will offer light peels of the top layer. Chemical peels are very effective for removing acne scars but can be expensive.

Acne Scar Removal Creams
Acne scar creams are available over the counter as well as by prescription from a physician or dermatologist. These creams can be used for any type of acne scar and use light acid ingredients to remove bad skin cells. There are also nutrients included in the creams to nourish the skin and supply it with essential compounds such as enzymes and vitamins for healthy skin cells.
It can be a tough battle for people who are trying to get rid of their acne scars. There are many products out there but since every skin is different it is difficult to find one that will be the perfect fit for any single individual. The best thing anyone can to is to speak with a dermatologist who can recommend the best acne scar treatment for their type of skin.
